VILLAGE LIBRARY

Please note that the Arlington Village Library is now closed. The books are being / have been sold off in aid of church and village funds.

........................

Since June 2015 the library has been in place in the back of St Pancras Church in Arlington. We had some Wednesday coffee mornings to help raise funds for the church, but the library itself was set up entirely from donated books and book shelves and is run as a free and voluntary service for the village.

Due to other events happening in the church over the Christmas period, the books have had to be relocated - rather than being shut away somewhere inaccessible, we wanted to arrange to move the books somewhere where the library could remain open. John McCutchan at Bates Green farm, home of the annual Bluebell Walk, kindly arranged with the people that run the charity Book Room at the farm to allow space for the library in the room. This means that the library can be open on Fridays and Saturdays throughout the winter, whenever the Bluebell Farm Shop is open so visitors can not only browse and borrow books from the library, they can also have a look at the charity books while they are there.
A group of volunteers got together on Saturday 7th November to help ferry the books to their new, temporary, home and enjoyed a lovely sociable time afterwards with tea and coffee in the farm shop.
On Saturday 14th Nov we hope to get the new shelves in place and start arranging books ready for the library to re-open that afternoon.

The library books will have stickers to differentiate them from the charity books - if anyone would like to help cover the cost of these, donations in the pot at the library would be very welcome.

We would love to know how many people use the library - please, when you visit, sign the Records book, even if you don't borrow or return any books that day. There is no time limit when you borrow a book and no-one will be chasing you up to return it, we just need a record to be able to demonstrate the popularity of the facility.
